One of the great things about a learning tower is that it allows you to transform your kitchen into a safe and exciting learning environment. The kitchen is a unique and fun setting that lets children learn math, science, and motor skills with their parents in a safe way.

However, when people see toddlers cooking, limitations and worries are frequently brought up. Therefore, we want to highlight what you can safely cook with your toddler, and other fun kitchen tasks for them to get involved with. We have provided an overview for set age ranges. But you know your child best. So be adventurous and help them have fun!

Age Range: 1 Year Old - 2 Years Old

At this age, children should mostly be observing. It is also great for them to just experience different scents and flavors. Simple tasks like sorting colors and learning new types of foods are good ways to stimulate mental activity.

Age Range: 2 Years Old - 3 Years Old

At this age range, children can start to become more involved with simple cooking/baking tasks. At this age, the tasks they do will largely depend on coordination. Some of the tasks you can get them involved with include:

  • Rolling / Pressing or Applying Cookie Cutters to Dough
  • Decorating Baked Goods
  • Stirring and Mixing

Age Range: 3 Years Old - 5 Years Old

Parents at this age range know how children are constantly intrigued by their surroundings. As a result, this is the age range where you start to see more interest in cooking start to develop. Some of the tasks that your toddler can now help with include:

  • Washing Dishes / Fruit
  • Taste-testing
  • Measuring Dry and Wet Ingredients
  • Getting Ingredients
  • Making Sandwiches

At the end of the day, this is simply a guide with a few ideas that we have tried with our children. Once you start, you will find that cooking with your children is an exciting way to bond and teach them new things. No matter what you are cooking, there should be more than enough simple ways to get them included.
